about the nccThe National Cadet Corps is the Indian military cadet corps that has its headquarters at New Delhi. It is open to both school and college students on a non-committal basis.The National Cadet Corps in India is a non-profit organisation which recruits cadets from high schools, colleges and universities across India. The cadets receive basic military training with small arms, and are also trained in parades. The officers and cadets have no obligation to participate in active military service when they've completed their education but are considered to be more qualified than normal candidates in selections according to their performance within the Corps.

NCC History

The NCC in India was formed in 1948 by the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948. It was proclaimed on July 15th, 1948. National Cadet Corps can be seen as a successor to the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) which was established in 1942 by the British during 1942. In the course of World War II, the UOTC failed to meet the standards set by the British. The result was that some better schemes should be formed, which could help train young men in a more effective manner, even during peace times. A group headed by Pandit H.N. Kunzru suggested a cadet association to be set up in schools and colleges on a national level. In 1948, the National Cadet Corps Act was accepted by Governor General. And on the 15th of July 1948 on July 15, 1948, the National Cadet Corps came into existence.

During the wars of 1965 and 1971 in the wars with Pakistan, NCC cadets were the second line of defense. They organized camps to help the ordinance factories, supplying ammunition and weapons to the front, and also were used as patrol parties to capture enemy paratroopers. The NCC cadets also worked hand in tandem with Civil Defence authorities and actively took part in rescue work in traffic and rescue work. Following the 1965 and the 1971 Indo-Pak wars the NCC syllabus was changed. Instead of being merely the secondary line of defense, the NCC syllabus placed more emphasis on the development of leadership as well as Officer-like traits. The military instruction that NCC participants received was cut back and more emphasis was given to other areas like social service and youth-management.
